This fringe/bang is perfect for someone with a larger forehead or anyone who wants over the forehead bangs without looking like a child. These bangs still have a side swept look to them even though they cover most of the forehead. They are very textured at the ends making them look more wispy and airy. A small amount of product has probably been used on bangs to give some definition.
Cosmoprof Trend #5
Eco-Favs – Still Struggling to Get Attention
I am a die heart Eco Organic user of all products. I love the all-natural products as you all know. At Cosmoprof I saw a handful of Organic/All-Natural product companies trying to introduce their pure
products but for some reason this category is a difficult one. Even larger companies like Zotos International, a leading manufacturer in hair care products, is launching their Pure natural lines. Will they get the fan fare? Is Organic and All-Natural really mainstream. Only time will tell. Maybe soon this category will grow and women will ask for it. I can say post show that it still maybe a little while.

It’s been a little while since we’ve highlighted a hair brand, so I’m excited to introduce you to Calista Tools. Calista Tools is a relatively new brand founded by Maria McCool and Donald Moore. The pair own Calista Grand Salon & Spa in West Chester, PA. Calista Tools is their response to the needs of their clients for affordable products that could recreate the styles they got in the salon!
Calista comes from the Greek word for beautiful, and each Calista Tools product is a tool for beautiful hair! Every product is designed to address a specific need or situation, from the shampoo to the styling tools. Every product was designed with a specific need in mind, making it very easy to decide what is right for you. Every person is able to create their own customized lineup of Calista Tools that will serve exactly what they want and need from their haircare. Very cool!
To “test out” the concept behind Calista Tools, I decided to build myself a lineup of products for someone with my hair type (fine, dry hair that has been color treated). It was a snap! Here’s the routine I came up with:
First, Quench Moisture Shampoo will moisturize my poor dry locks. Smooth Argan Conditioner will act as a treatment,
infusing my hair with smooth shine and fighting frizz. After the shower, Achieve 10 Styling Cream will be my go-to multi-tasker. It will detangle, protect my hair from heat, and also shield my color from environmental fading all while blocking humidity and adding shine. On most days, those three will be plenty to achieve gorgeous, healthy hair. But if I ever want to shake things up with my style, Calista Tools has products designed for both wet styling and dry styling for any look I can think of!
And for those of you who have a hair problem that needs solving, but don’t know what the answer is, Calista Tools also has a library of video how-to techniques to fix common hair issues! Very cool.

Like many women with curly or wavy hair, I struggle with keeping my hair straight on hot humid days. Coppola’s Keratin Complex Straight Day Spray is supposed to reduce frizz and flyaways and produce a silky and smooth clean finish to the hair. Although the spray does not have the most appealing fragrance, it does produce great results.
After shampooing and conditioning, I towel dried my hair so it was damp. I sectioned my hair and then sprayed two sprays on each section. I blow dried my hair and then used my straightening iron. After I was
done blow drying I noticed that my hair was not as wavy and curly as it usually is. After completion of straightening it, I then applied two more sprays to each section of my hair. After the spray was applied, I went over it with the straightening iron. In conjunction with the Straight Day Spray, I also used Coppola’s Keratin Complex Thermo Shine Spray to add shine to my results.
Even though the past couple of days have been rather hot and humid, my hair held up very nicely in this weather. During the evenings, when it was less hot but still extremely humid, I even dared to drive with my windows down. My hair stayed perfectly straight and did not frizz up. The Infusion Therapy spray is a great product and I would highly recommend this product to other women who have the same problem with keeping their curly or wavy hair straight!

For the Carolina Herrera Fall 2011 collections, Orlando Pita created these sleek horizontal
buns to
complement
the
graceful simplicity
of this
season’s
luxurious clothes.
“I wanted
the hair to look special
and
different
from
what
we’ve
seen
before,
especially since
it’s
all
about what
happens at
the back
of the
head,” Pita says. “For this season, I‘m feeling a strong move away from tousled, messy hair.” Fashion is definitely more dressed and polished and it’s dictating where hair is going. The looks are more controlled, healthy looking and shiny.”

How To Create Pita’s Horizontal
Buns:
- Orlando Pita dried the models’ hair using a hair dryer, Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream, and a round Moroccanoil Ceramic Ionic Brush. This created sleekness as well as added volume. “The Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream is great for that,” Pita says. “It makes the hair shiny and smooth but still gives it the right amount of hold and substance for updos.
- For models whose hair was dry or damaged, Pita first applied Moroccanoil Treatment to restore the hair’s condition. “It absorbs right in.”
- Pita then created a low part and pulls the hair back, letting one side sweep across the side of the face, making a small ponytail in the back. “I let strands hang down, then lifted them up, through and down, and attached it with pins at the fold. It looks tucked in, almost like an envelope,” Pita explains.
- The style is finished with a light spray of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to polish off the look and control any flyaways.

What do you think of Orlando Pita’s horizontal
buns? Do you agree that the trend is moving away from messy/bedhead hair and toward dressy, polished looks?

At last night’s LA premiere of Unknown, January Jones wore an edgy, asymmetrical hairstyle. The look was created by Suave Professionals Stylist, Jenny Cho. “We’ve all seen January Jones look stunning with beautiful retro hair styles so for this event, my vision was to do something as interesting and edgy as her Alexander McQueen dress, Jenny says. “To compliment the strong military vibe, I wanted her to have a modern toughness to her hair but still have a sexy edge.”

When I saw this hairstyle on January, it reminded me of the models at this weekend’s Charlotte Ronson’s Fall 2011 RTW. I’m pretty sure Jenny Cho was the lead stylist for that show too. Although, of course, the hair at Charlotte Ronson was much more grunge inspired, and January’s hair is super polished and more chignon-y, but still I recognized the faux-undercut thing. Jenny is really loving that right now! If you’re digging it too, follow Jenny’s steps to recreate this look at home…

How To Recreate January’s Hair:
- With a tail comb, section off the top of hair. Using the arch of the eyebrow as a guide, make a “V” shape to the other side for a deep side part. Leave this section for later.
- Layer Suave Professionals Sleek Anti-Frizz Cream and Volumizing Root Boost Spray on hair for texture and grip. Use a flat brush like the Mason Pearson and blow dry hair, directing it back and down for a chignon. Suave Professionals Dry Shampoo is also essential for this particular step.
- To put hair up in a chignon, make another “V” section in the back center of the head, keeping the sides clipped away. Tease hair in a horizontal section starting from the top of the “V”. Concentrate on the roots and mist Suave Professionals Touchable Finish Lightweight Hold Hairspray to keep teased sections in place. Brush this teased section down and make it flat to the head. Twist section and pin away.
- Tease the sides, taking vertical sections and following the step above. Gently brush one side to the center back. Twist from the nape and secure with bobby pins linking them upwards together. Do the same on the other side but for this side, use “U” shaped pins for light grip so you don’t disturb the shape.
- Once the chignon is in place, take the top section down and blow dry layering a little more anti-frizz cream and volumizing root boost spray to the direction where you want the hair to stay.
- Mist hairspray on this section and flat iron. Finish look with dry shampoo for extra texture.
