Gwyneth Paltrow. We need to talk. You are smokin’ hot and in ridiculous shape (as showcased by the, uh, questionable gown you wore last night to the Emmys), but it’s time to address something that has been troubling me:

What in the heck is that? And by that, I mean your hair. A center part and vaguely mousy looking? You can do better! You are Gwyneth freaking Paltrow for crying out loud! I am distressed to read that this hair look was created by David Babaii. It was distressing because that means someone actually did this to you. On purpose. He called this hair “straight edgy”. I have a better name for it: “limp boring”.

Ladies and gentlemen, THIS is Hollywood glam! Evan Rachel Wood was dazzling in a beautiful Ellie Saab gown, perfectly applied NARS cosmetics, and her hair!

C’est magnifique! And you know a look must be great if it makes me start exclaiming French phrases. Short-haired beauty Evan sported a very stylized finger curl hair style that looked like it came straight out of old Hollywood. Definitely one of the best coiffed celebs of the night, don’t you agree?

Emmy winner Julie Bowen looked fantastic in her daringly low cut Oscar De La Renta gown. Such a dramatic gown shouldn’t have to compete with fussy hair and makeup, and Julie’s super sleek side ponytail gets top honors from me!

I appreciate the choice to make it a side pony rather than a “regular” pony tail because having the hair rest softly on her shoulder frames her pretty face so nicely. This winner-worthy look was created by Jill Crosby for T3.

Katie, what on earth were you thinking? Were you thinking? I’m thinking Katie really ought to consider cutting her hair again. She is a beautiful woman whose hair always seems to look a mess. Short hair is a lot easier to manage and quicker to style with the right cut, and is really flattering on her. It would certainly serve her better than this:

The simple, fresh makeup and lack of jewelry in Katie’s Emmy Red Carpet look gave an air of casual, effortlessly chic glamor. But the hair just looked plain effortless – like she tied it up to get it out of the way for makeup and left it that way.

It’s not the first time Katie has appeared looking somewhat disheveled from the eyebrows up, either. Her hair for her So You Think You Can Dance guest judge appearance left me scratching my head. This year, many of the celebs of the MTV Video Music Awards had side ponytails that were perfectly on point!

Okay sure, you’re probably gawking at the babylicious Beyonce‘s cute little bump, but have you noticed her hair? The simple, subdued side pony was a perfect complement to her dramatic dress and terrific news!

Jersey Shore’s J-Woww dazzled in a daring minidress. She’s been seen sporting colored extensions recently, but for the VMAs she kept her hair rather low key. In fact, it was just about the only thing low key about her ensemble that evening.

The always lovely Adele as also among those who wore her hair in a voluminous, wavy side ponytail. Adele’s look involves some volumizing of epic proportion.

Taking things to a more bohemian style, fashionista Louise Roe’s side ponytail is a little more “un-done”. However, with a bejeweled gown the look was still formal enough for the occasion.

Hollywood hottie Matt Damon recently shaved his head for his role in Elysium. I gotta say, I don’t hate it.
